The Hermès Herbag

Every bag lover can probably agree that Hermès makes thé most iconic bags. Unfortunately, they also come with a price. Especially if you’re just starting your designer handbag collection, you probably won’t have the money to buy yourself a Hermès Birkin or Kelly. Luckily, there is a more affordable option available: the Hermès Herbag! A stylish shoulder bag that resembles the Hermès Kelly.

The Hermès Herbag, also known as the 'two-in-one bag', has been around for a while. We’re not sure when it was first manufactured, however, we have previously had bags for sale from the 80s and 90s. The original Herbag wasn’t the most popular bag, as it was sometimes referred to as the “Kelly Country”. However, ever since the redesign it has been rising in popularity every year. Over the past couple of years, we have seen the Herbag on many catwalks and on the arms of many celebrities like the Kardashians.

Design

The Hermès Herbag is often called: the little sister of the Hermès Kelly. In design, these two bags look quite similar. The Herbag has, just like the Kelly, a trapezoid shape, which means that the bottom is slightly wider than the top. It has a top handle, an additional strap, also comes with a clochette and padlock, and has closing system that is comparable to the Kelly. The main difference between the two bags is the material. A Kelly is made completely out of leather, where the Herbag has a leather top and a body made from canvas.

The top of the Herbag (the upper section and handle etc.) is made from Vache Hunter leather. A thick and durable type of leather. The Body of the bag is made completely out of hard wearable canvas and can actually be detached and replaced by a different body. The swappable body is the reason that the Herbag is also known as the two-in-one bag. The leather top can be attached to any other body using the palladium Hermès hardware that can be detached. This way you can use the same top part for different colors, designs, and sizes of the Hermès Herbag.

The combination of the top handle and the shoulder strap makes sure that the Herbag is comfortable to carry in different ways. The bag can even be worn crossbody, however, this depends on personal taste. Some might find that the strap is to short for this.
Next to the different sizes, colors, and designs, the Hermès Herbag also comes as a backpack. This version of the bag is almost completely the same as the shoulder bag, but it has different handles. The Herbag Backpack also is a two-in-one bag, meaning that the canvas body can be swapped.

Hermès Herbag old vs new

We don’t know the actual reason, but the Hermès Herbag was discontinued in the mid-00s. In 2009, Hermès reintroduced the bag under a new name: the Hermès Herbag Zip. The design broadly stayed the same, but there were some significant changes from the original in the hope to improve it. The Herbag Zip comes with only one body, but the body can still be replaced by other bodies just like the original bag.

The new Zip bag comes with a removeable pouch on the inside, but it doesn’t have any inside pockets. On the back there is an exterior pocket that can be closed with a zipper. This makes it easier to reach for certain items, without having to open the entire bag.

Sizes

The Hermès Herbag is available in three different sizes; PM, MM, and GM (small, medium, and large). For reverence, the Herbag MM is a little smaller than the largest Hermès Kelly bag. The Herbag backpack only has one model, but comes with two different sizes of body that you can switch up. The MM is a little smaller than the largest Kelly. The different sizes are all the same in design.

Just like the original, the renewed Herbag Zip also comes in three different sizes.

Want to buy your own Hermès Herbag?

The Hermès Herbag is one of the cheaper Hermès bags available, but the price still varies. Even though the bag isn’t completely made out of leather, you can count on the great quality and high standards that Hermès brings with all its bags.

The original, discontinued Hermès Herbag is becoming quite hard to find. Other than the Hermès Herbag Zip, that can sometimes still be found on the Hermès website. However, most of the time there still is a waiting list! The Herbag is a very rare find, but you can always try your luck to see if we have it for sale.
