"It's not a bag, It's a Baguette"
If you're a fan of Sex and the City, then you quickly recognized the quote. And for those not familiar with it, the iconic Carrie Bradshaw was referring to everyone's favorite bag, The Fendi Baguette. The Italian label has a lot to celebrate, because their beloved Baguette is turning 25! And we're talking about a BIG celebration, including collaborations with Marc Jacobs, Tiffany & Co... The best of the best.
The origin of The Baguette
Can you believe it's been 25 years since it came out? The bag was designed in 1997 by Silvia Venturini Fendi. Initially, it was considered as too small, not functional, too colorful and exuberant for a time when everything was more minimalistic. Luckily, Silvia Venturini remained loyal to its design and her vision.
Celebrating its 25th anniversary
This past 9th of September, Fendi put together one of their most exclusive events to present their new collection by Kim Jones, Fendi's artistic director. The luxury brand came to New York to present "Resort 2023" and with it, to celebrate their 25-year milestone.
And for such an important event, they had to invite the most influential celebrities and supermodels, such as Kim Kardashian, Kate Moss, Amber Valleta and of course, Sarah Jessica Parker.
Marc Jacobs & Tiffany
The city of New York has always been very influential to Fendi, in fact, their popularity increased due to Sex and the City. Because of that, Jones joined forces with two of the most significant brands in New York, Marc Jacobs and Tiffany & Co.
Tiffany took their iconic "Tiffany Blue" and created the perfect balance between the brands. Their beautiful shade of blue, crocodile leather and the classic shape of the Baguette, carried by the one and only Bella Hadid. Furthermore, they presented a super-mini-Baguette, joining the mini bag trend.
Jacobs was also true to its brand, giving The Baguette a modern look while maintaining its essence. The main goal was to capture New York's sparkling cityscape, and they sure did!
And to put the cherry on the cake, the current face of Fendi, Linda Evangelista, closed the show in a Tiffany blue opera cape, with a sterling silver Baguette bag.
