You'll love the Dior fashion house even more with these Dior bags for 2021.
Maria Grazia Chiuri's show for fashion house Dior was simply stunning in every sense of the word. Each look took even more effort than the other, and everything was perfectly in line with the overall inspiration for the collection: Catherine Dior. Catherine, Christian's sister and the mistress of 'Miss Dior' was also a resistance fighter and concentration camp prisoner who later became a renowned gardener and botanist. The inspiration and the theme chosen by Maria Grazia Chiuri are important for this moment in time when the preservation of nature and biodiversity is central.
The set for the show was an "inclusive garden" with trees as a backdrop that would later be replanted, as they are part of a travelling forest. This set was designed in collaboration with landscape collective 'Coloco'. Unlike shows in the past, where a ton of vibrant flowers were used and then discarded, this season's theme was sustainability.
Grazia Chiuri said the following about sustainability:
"We have to use creativity, but we are more conscious about what we do."
The collection as a whole was a twist on a utilitarian classic with everything from tie-dyed jeans to slouchy trousers and perforated hiking boots. Texture was the focus of the collection, as always with Chiuri, however this time we saw life infused with raffia, layered tulle and other intertwined appliqués.
As for the bags, Chiuri concentrated on the main silhouettes in seasonal variations. The coveted Book Tote has been redesigned in cream, grey, striped and tie-dye embroidered canvas, with some versions featuring the famous Cannage pattern. The simplicity of the canvas in combination with the chosen colours fits seamlessly into the overall theme and feels fresh and trendy at the same time. The same finish was given to the Lady Dior Bags and there were 30 Montaigne and Saddle bags to complete the bags.
Often, ready-to-wear collections contain the ornate showpiece in a way we can all appreciate, but they don't translate to everyday wear. This was not the case for Chiuri's spring 2020 collection. Genuine designs that can be worn now and forever created a collection from clothing to bags to accessories, which is rare.
