Small - smaller - smallest

The Mini Bag, have you heard of it, or even better: do you already own one? Every fashion icon nowadays has a Mini Bag in her wardrobe. It is impossible to imagine the fashion industry without these little bags. Countless world stars have preceded you, such as Kim Kardashian, Gigi Hadid, Kendall Jenner and Rihanna Fenty.

Karl Lagerfeld

If you cast your mind back to Fendi's Spring/Summer 2015 collection, Karl Lagerfeld was the first to introduce us to the modern Mini bag phenomenon. His version was structured and embellished, accompanied by fluffy oversized key chains. But women also wore mini bags long before the Fendi 2015 collection. From the early to mid 1900s, women carried small purses with them. These small purses were especially popular in the early 1900s and were often worn by wealthy women because they were small and therefore elegant and classy. At the time, these small purses were a status symbol, and to some extent they still are. Members of the royal family, such as Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle, often do not carry a handbag at all.

The Jacquemus Le Chiquito Bag

While all mobile phones are getting bigger, sports shoes more present and earrings wider, handbags are getting smaller nowadays. When Simon Porte, the designer behind Jacquemus, first introduced the 'Le Chiquito' bag, they were an anomaly, only two models in his Fall 2017 Ready-to-Wear collection carried tiny bags. And yet the tiny bag made an outsized impression. Almost immediately, the Jacquemus' mini bags were spotted on fashion icons in New York, after the Met Gala last year. A season later, almost every model and celebrity who walked with Jacquemus' F/W 2018 collection wore a mini bag in various brightly colored shades.

After, Simon Porte introduced the mini 'Le Chiquito' bag; an even smaller bag with the capacity to hold a pair of small earrings. These minuscule bags have even become the signature of the Jacquemus brand and are now one of the most sought-after designer bags.
