All you need to know about Gianni Versace 

Italian designer Gianni Versace, has a special taste in fashion. Gianni's collections were bold, colorful and luxurious. In his designs, he used animal prints, slits, leather, and especially ultra sleek silhouettes.

Who Was He? 

Gianni Versace was also known for the groundbreaking work he produced in the fashion world. Because he was open about his homosexuality, he was an important person for the LGBTQ-movement. He especially encouraged women not to be ashamed of their bodies and show it with his creations. He was also a real marketer and knew how to work with the right celebrities to promote his clothes. Unfortunately, Gianni was murdered on July 15, 1997.

The Beginning 

As a child, Gianni helped his mother pick out gemstones and gold braids. At one point his mother also sold Gianni's designs in her couture house. In 1978, Versace signed his first own collection and opened a boutique with his brother Santo on Via della Spiga in Milan. This was the beginning of the Versace fashion house. Gianni began working with fashion photographer Richard Avedon, who made models' clothes shine.

Gianni dressed celebrities such as Madonna, Elton John and Prince. He was and
